The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) has published Matter 1.6, the newest version of the cross-vendor smart-home standard. Among the notable additions is Shared Fabrics, which lets multiple admin ecosystems share a single fabric more cleanly, reducing the friction of running devices across Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon and Home Assistant at the same time.
Matter 1.6 also refines thermostat behaviour and continues the energy-management work started in earlier revisions. It follows Matter 1.5.1, a camera-focused maintenance update released in March 2026 that improved multi-stream video, HEIC snapshots and doorbell and intercom handling.
For homeowners the practical takeaway is gradual: a feature can appear in the specification well before it shows up in retail hardware or every platform app. Adoption still depends on device makers shipping firmware that exposes the new clusters.
