Stellantis has issued one of the largest automotive recalls of 2026, covering about 1,076,999 Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator vehicles over a faulty electrical connection in the power-steering pump wiring. The defect can pose a fire risk even when the vehicle is turned off.
According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue has been linked to 51 fires and one injury. Owners are advised to park affected vehicles away from structures and to follow the manufacturer’s remediation guidance once recall notices are issued.
The Jeep action is part of a busy year for safety recalls in the United States. NHTSA has logged more than 300 vehicle recalls in 2026, and several notices now carry “do-not-drive” warnings. In a separate action, Honda recalled Pilot, Ridgeline, Passport and Acura MDX vehicles in 23 northern states over rear-subframe corrosion, while Hyundai widened a campaign covering phantom-braking (AEB) defects affecting hundreds of thousands of Tucson and Santa Cruz models.
Car owners with affected models should check their VIN on the NHTSA recall portal and schedule a free repair at an authorised dealer. Recalls of this scale are a reminder to act on recall notices promptly rather than deferring a visit to the workshop.
